SPOTLIGHT CLASSES 2016/2017

MUSICAL THEATRE

Musical theatre classes incorporate acting, vocal singing, and choreography. In-class work includes improving character portrayal, diction, singing, movement and choreography. Performers will learn to emote appropriately for various songs, themes and characters. Theatre games and improvisation are part of each class to encourage spontaneity and creativity. Students will learn audition skills while preparing for show casting and placed in the areas they can best contribute to the production for their overall learning. Competition opportunities are available for performers in musical theatre and song and dance.

COMPETITIVE CLASS

For students who enjoy the challenge of competing and receiving education from professional judges and teachers. Spotlight participates in drama and musical theatre competition both locally and internationally.

RECREATIONAL CLASSES

Spotlight performers have many opportunities to advance and explore their studies while attending various classes during the season. Beginner and intermediate students will learn the basics of theatre, stage directions, gain confidence for interviews and auditions suitable for their age group. Experienced intermediate and advanced students will learn to prepare and dress for auditions as well as proper techniques for auditions in musical theatre and drama.

"WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE"

Join Tumbili the monkey, Tembo the elephant, Kiboko the hippo, Twiga the giraffe, and the rest of the jungle gang for a very special African adventure. A group of storytellers narrates the story of Panya, a tiny mouse who uses her charm to escape the claws of Maliki, a ferocious lion. But when Maliki gets caught in the hunter's net - who do you suppose will be the first to his rescue? Welcome to the Jungle is a story of promises kept and friendships made, told in five simple songs and a stylized script written especially for young performers.

"THE CASTLE ROCKS"

An original musical written by Merlene Samuel-Cephas and Kathy Solluch. "A Fairy Godmother in training gets everything mixed up! Tabitha Rabitha works at the strictest castle in the land. The castle rocks when Tabitha's rockstar brother and Prince Winston switch places by mistake. Join the characters along this magical musical journey.

board! Perhaps the King of the High C's will know what to do along with his colourful crew! Join Bluebeard,
Yellowbeard, Whitebeard and Purplebeard as they hoist the Jolly Roger and set sail for a mighty adventure!
